Charles R. (“Chuck”) Helms practices commercial real estate, corporate, and business transactions law. His practice includes the representation of private companies, partnerships, commercial and private lenders, investors, trusts and estates in the purchase, sale, development, financing, and leasing of commercial real property. Chuck has represented buyers, sellers, landlords, tenants, contractors, developers and brokers in connection with retail shopping centers, apartments, commercial and medical office buildings and restaurants.
He charters new business entities and drafts, reviews and/or negotiates letters of intent, contracts of purchase and sale, ground leases, option agreements and rights of first refusal, deeds, construction contracts, loan agreements, personal guaranties and pledge agreements, restrictive covenants, tax incentive agreements, property management agreements, brokerage agreements, license agreements, boundary line agreements, and easement agreements for vehicular and pedestrian access, telecommunication facilities, utility lines, and oil and gas pipelines and rights-of-way.
Chuck also performs title, survey, site plan, platting and zoning due diligence and assists clients in closings, clearing title, boundary disputes and the resolution of mechanics lien claims and filings.
Since 2007, Chuck has been a partner of Pesek & Helms, LLP n/k/a Pesek, Helms & Turner, LLP in Dallas, Texas, where he practices commercial real estate, corporate and business transactions law. From 2002 until co-founding Pesek & Helms, LLP, Chuck was the principal of Charles R. Helms, P.C.
Prior to his four years in solo practice, Chuck served for two years as General Counsel and Secretary of Gnubi Communications, Inc., an Addison-based, telecom holding company with operating subsidiaries in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Prior to joining Gnubi, Chuck was a transactional partner at Scheef & Stone, L.L.P., a Dallas, Texas law firm.
Chuck received his law degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1992, where he was an Associate Editor of the Texas Law Review. In addition, he holds an A.B. degree from Princeton University (1980), an M.A. from the University of Dallas (1985) and a D.Phil. from Oxford University, England (1992). Chuck reads legal documents in Spanish, French and Italian.
Chuck is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association and the Catholic Bar Association. He also holds a Series 65 and is a Texas registered investment advisor representative.
Chuck is a current Director and a past President of the St. Thomas More Society, the guild for Catholic attorneys in greater Dallas. He is currently the coach of the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) fencing club. He was previously an Assistant Scoutmaster of BSA Troop 21, Circle 10, in Dallas, Texas.
